"The Conceptual Master Plan of Energizing Kowloon East" has initiated to steer the transformation and development of Kowloon East, and sustain and respect the industrial culture of Kowloon East as capturing the "Spirit of Creation" to the future. EKEO engaged a consultant team consists of academic and different professionals to carry out "The Spirit of Creation – Study on Industrial Culture of Kowloon East" This link will open in a new window in the end of 2012 to collect and record the industrial culture and stories in the urban fabric as the area transforms and recommend the incorporation of these precious essence in the urban design and place making strategy which directs the elite and organic growth of the city.
Throughout the "The Spirit of Creation – Study on Industrial Culture of Kowloon East", the research team interviewed numerous local industrialists and we are truly inspired by their stories of success, their drive, perseverance, and unparalleled creativity in the face of hardship and adversity in the past 50 years . The team also contacted many factory workers and realized that without their dedication and strong work ethic, Hong Kong would not have reached its economic prosperity
Apart from the advice in the urban design and place making strategy, a discovery map This link will open in a new window has also been proposed to link up the public space with spots of interest on historical, architectural and cultural values. The public could understand and aware the transformation and development of Kowloon East and hence to arise their interest to continue the "Spirit of Creation" in the future. To crystalize the idea of "The Spirit of Creation", elements that will add a flavor of industrial culture to the urban design will be introduced, including the decoration of ten switch boxes featuring the local industrial characters. The transformation of Tsun Yip Street Playground Phase 1 is the first of these project showcasing how the findings of the study can be integrated into designs to improve public spaces. It accommodates the exhibits of "The Spirit of Creation", which is the essence of economic development in Hong Kong and tells the story of Hongkongese with great perseverance, braveness and creativity spirit that will be inherited into the future.
