Since the Policy Address announcement on 12 October 2011, we have received overwhelming support from almost all quarters in society on the Energizing Kowloon East Initiative. Our briefings to stakeholders are generally well received and the unanimous feedback is that the Government should execute this blueprint with determination, speed and extensive public engagement.
To capitalize upon the opportunity to kick start transformation of Kowloon East in light of the general support of the community, a preparatory team was set up in the Development Bureau on 13 February 2012 to prepare for the establishment of EKEO for taking forward the initiatives and to embark on the immediate tasks pertaining to the transformation of Kowloon East. The multi-disciplinary EKEO was inaugurated on 7 June 2012 to steer, supervise, oversee and monitor the development of Kowloon East with a view to facilitating its transformation into another premier CBD of Hong Kong to support our economic growth and strengthen our global competitiveness.
