In line with the sustainable development theme adopted in Kai Tak Development, we will promote Kowloon East as a green community with low carbon building design. We are taking the lead to employ low carbon and sustainable design concept in government projects. On private sector side, we are examining the possibility to specify in the lease conditions for private development to achieve Gold or above rating under BEAM Plus NB and to provide more extensive soft landscape coverage.
To promote low carbon buildings, we developed a Green Map at the website of EKEO in June 2013. It highlighted Green Buildings and Green Check Points in Kowloon East to provide diversified environmental friendly information to the public.
Green Buildings in Kowloon East are those which have obtained BEAM Plus NB Gold or above rating. To promote Green Buildings, existing buildings in Kowloon East are encouraged to adopt measures to reduce carbon emissions and energy consumption. New development and renovation of existing buildings are encouraged to adopt low-carbon design to establish a green community in Kowloon East.
Green Check Points
Green Check Points are comprised of several Green Buildings and environmental facilities in Kowloon East, including the Energizing Kowloon East Office, Electrical and Mechanical Services Department Headquarters Building, Kowloon Bay Waste Recycling Center and “ZCB” of Construction Industry Council.
