The “Kowloon Bay Business Area Pedestrian Environment Improvement – Feasibility Study” was completed in August 2016 to examine the required improvements for the pedestrian environment in Kowloon Bay Business Area (KBBA). It formulated a series of pedestrian links scheme and identified two main pedestrian routes, i.e. the Green Spine and the Green Link, to improve connectivity and the pedestrian environment within KBBA.
The Green Spine comprises two sections, i.e. the “North/South Section” and the “East/West Section”. The “North/South Section” is composed of the Sitting-out Areas at Kai Cheung Road, Lam Hing Street, Wang Tai Road and Lam Fook Street, where facelifting works have been completed, as well as the Sitting-out Area at Sheung Yuet Road (under construction). The “East/West Section” running along Lam Wah Street connects a new public open space developed by a private developer, a section of the pedestrian walkway between Wang Chiu Road and Wang Kwun Road and the Lam Wah Street Playground (under construction). The “North/South Section” is substantially completed, while the “East/West Section” is being implemented in phases.
The Green Link extends from north to south linking up major open spaces and new developments or points of interests within the Kowloon Bay Business Area (KBBA) to provide a comfortable and green environment for pedestrians. Through the setback requirement on various Government, Institution or Community sites at Wang Chin Street and Wang Kee Street, a wider and more spacious footpath will be resulted for future greening and streetscape enhancement development. In particular, the triangular-shaped open space at the junction of Sheung Yee Road/Kai Fuk Road has been converted to a landscaped area, which together with the Kwun Tong Community Green Station, provides more green facilities in KBBA for public enjoyment. The remaining Green Link will be implemented in phases so as to form a comprehensive green network.
