In order to energize the Kowloon East (KE) harbourfront which is part of the CBD2, a campaign has been held to showcase the “Co-use” concept of water bodies near Kwun Tong Typhoon Shelter. The campaign aims at evaluating the significance of water bodies in urban context, as well as identifying opportunities and constraints that arose by nearby developments. The nearby corporates and water sports organizers have been engaged to explore possible ideas for promoting water based activities and leisure programmes. Through various events, stakeholders’ views and their insights about KE harbourfront have also been gathered.
“Harbour Energizer”
The first event “Harbour Energizer” was held on 13 April 2024. It provided opportunities for those who work and live here to experience the joy of water and land activities and the diverse vitality in the urban area. The water activities part included rowing, canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding. Participants could get to know and experience water sports in the city centre. On landside, body and mind relaxing exercises including zentangle drawing, yoga, stretching and physical fitness test were held for participants to experience the four key mind-body elements.
Let's Get SUP!
A 6-week series of events and activities namely “Let's Get SUP” have been arranged to connect the “Sea & Shoreside”, “CommUnity” and “Playground for ALL” for the public between September and November 2024.
PAC-MAN Halloween Trick-or-Treat at Kowloon East
In collaboration with SVhk, Hong Kong Playground Association, HKALPS and BANDAI, with the Halloween carnival themed “PAC-MAN” was held on 31 October 2024. The event aimed to introduce the public to the vitality and possibilities brought by the waterfront in Kowloon East through festive activities. With the feature water sports – canoe and SUP incorporating ‘glow-in-the-dark’ elements taking place in the Kwun Tong Typhoon Shelter at night and some land-based booth games, showcasing the appeal of the ‘Urban Water Sports Centre’.
