Design Competition for Redevelopment of Open Space at Choi Hung Road Playground was co-organized by Energizing Kowloon East Office of the Development Bureau and Architectural Services Department.  The aim of the competition was to gather creative design concepts and ideas to enhance the attractiveness and inclusiveness of the open space and inject new vitality into San Po Kong.

To engage with stakeholders, and to create designs that reflect the unique history and culture of the district, a Community Engagement Workshop was conducted on 25 February 2023.  The competition was launched in February 2023, and the result was announced on 30 June 2023.  The Design Competition concluded successfully with an award presentation ceremony held on 5 August 2023.

The entries in the competition demonstrated a high standard of design, with innovative concepts that matched the characteristics of the Choi Hung Road Playground Open Space.  The winning entry of the professional group, "Field and Hill" incorporated elements of Chinese cultural heritage into a poetic landscape design, while also incorporating inclusive design to meet the various needs of visitors. The winning entry of the student group, "Ride Along the Living Wall" injected vibrancy and energy into the open space with an outstanding theme.

We intend to adopt the design ideas and concepts of the First Prize Winning Entry of the Professional Group for the design and implementation of the Redevelopment of Open Space at Choi Hung Road Playground.
