Kwun Tong Promenade Phase 2 has become a popular public open space since its opening in May 2015. Part of the Promenade, known as Sensory Garden underneath the Kwun Tong Bypass, has deteriorated after serving the public for years, in particular some sensory installations that need frequent maintenance. Hence the “Transformation of Sensory Garden” is undertaken.

Part 1 Transformation

Transformation

A unique playground themed "Flying & Realizing Your Dreams" in the Sensory Garden at Kwun Tong Promenade is officially open to the public on 24 October 2025, as an integral part of the Kwun Tong Promenade enhancement programme, the upgraded playground with new contemporary play facilities prioritize to bring more vibrancy and vitality to the area, perfectly aligning with the innovative place-making and urban design initiatives as strongly promulgated under the Energizing Kowloon East initiatives.

The renewed playground covering approximately 800 m2, features various distinctive and attractive play facilities, including a Gravity Rail designed for children aged 5 to 12, allowing users to experience the thrill of "flying". Additionally, there is a Climbing Playhouse specially designed for children aged 2 to 5, as well as Percussion instruments (drums and metallophones) suitable for all ages.

Part 2 Transformation

The EKEO and the Hong Kong Institute of Architects launched a public engagement workshop and a design competition to collect creative ideas to give a new image to the garden for its continuous service to the community.

We adopted the design ideas and concepts of the 1st Prize Winning Entry of the Professional Group for the design and implementation of the Part 2 Transformation of Sensory Garden at Kwun Tong Promenade. New impressive art installations are on-going under part 2 enhancement works of the Sensory Garden, which will also definitely bring the public to embark on an imaginative adventure in the near future.
