With an aim to promote diverse water recreational uses and vibrancy of the waterfront, short, medium and long-term water body co-use proposals are recommended for the Kwun Tong Typhoon Shelter (KTTS) and part of Kai Tak Approach Channel.
To promote water body co-use between vessels and water recreational activities in the KTTS during non-typhoon days, EKEO and Marine Department revised the “Guidelines for Co-using Kwun Tong Typhoon Shelter” in April 2019 and the vessel passageway along the Kwun Tong Promenade has been widened from 50 m to 100 m to release more space for water recreational activities.
Some short-term tenancy applications for setting up water sports facilities around KTTS were approved. In the medium to long term, the Government will continue to explore the feasibility of introducing additional marine access and ancillary facilities for water recreational uses along the waterfront of KTTS and Kai Tak Runway Tip. With the completion of the Kwun Tong Action Area and the Kai Tak Tourism Node, more entertainment and tourism-related uses would be provided to promote the vibrancy and attractiveness of the waterfront.
